After a walk this morning outside in 3 degree temperatures, I was glad to return to my warm home this morning. It reminded me of just how fortunate I am to have no problem paying my gas bill, and to have a refrigerator full of food. We all know that there are others not as fortunate in Walla Walla County.
One of the ways that we can make sure that our community retains a safety net in tough times, is to support United Way of Walla Walla County. When you give to United Way, your money stays local, and it goes a long way.
Funds go to locally run partner agencies, and their funding requests are reviewed annually by community members, to ensure that your money is spent in the most effective way possible.
As this year's president of United Way, I'm pleased to work with a great group of board members and our executive director, Liz McDevitt. They are all focused on achieving this year's goal of raising $460,000, which will allow us to maintain our support of the quality agencies that provide a wide variety of services to local families and children.
Once again I'm giving to United Way, and I would encourage you to join me. Contributions can be made through many area campaigns, or can be sent directly to: United Way of Walla Walla, PO Box 1134, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
