WALLA WALLA -- An inmate at the Walla Walla County Jail caused significant damage to an air duct, as well as other property, as she attempted an escape from the facility Thursday, officials said.
Tonya Boffing, 18, of 1317 S. Main St. in Milton-Freewater, had climbed into an air return duct at the jail, located at 300 W. Alder St., according to a Walla Walla County Sheriff's report. Boffing is also accused of damaging some blinds, and attempting to break a window in her alleged plan.
Another inmate apparently tipped off a sergeant about Boffing's location in the duct about 5 p.m.
Boffing faces charges of attempted escape and first-degree malicious mischief. She was originally jailed on suspicion of residential burglary and third-degree theft, an official said.
