Pioneer boys swamp Bulldogs

Mac-Hi takes the 14-0 Greater Oregon League win.

MILTON-FREEWATER — Oscar Flores and Johnny Trevino booted three goals each to help Mac-Hi swamp Baker 14-0 in boys Greater Oregon League soccer action here on Thursday.

The win gives the Pioneers a 10-1 record on the season.

Jose Herrera and Luis Alvarez scored two goals each for Mac-Hi.

Nick Stanford, Lupito Salazar, Roberto Sandovar and Christian Zaragoza each scored one Pioneer goal.

Florez and Herrera chipped in two assists apiece for the Pioneers.

"We tried to keep the score down," Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said. "We played possession, possession, possession. We didn’t score until the 20th minute, and we led 4-0 at halftime.

Mac-Hi keeper Junior Florez had two saves on the day.

"We played a lot of kids, and kids who don’t get to play much get excited," Garcia said. "And some teams don’t take their game as seriously as we do.

"We work hard, and we practice all year," he continued. "And I give summer camps all around, and some of the teams don’t participate in those."

Mac-Hi returns to action at La Grande at noon Saturday.
