MILTON-FREEWATER — The Mac-Hi cross country boys and girls did well at the annual Gut Buster meet here Friday at Milton-Freewater Municipal Golf Course, Yantis Park and Shockman Field.
The boys had a second-place finisher in Lucas Simpson with a time of 18:50.68. He was just behind first-place finisher Tyler Zyph of Pendleton at 18:18.59.
"Lucas Simpson had a excellent race. He beat everybody that he has been chasing all year round," said coach John Milleson.
Mac-Hi’s boys finished third in a race of five schools.
"All of our boys finished with personal records at a course with a steep hill," Milleson said. "It probably had some guys or girls walking part way up," Milleson said.
John Lonai finished 11th for the boys with a time of 19:53.45, and Kaleb Taylor had a 13th-place finish with a time of 20:22.05.
All four of the Mac-Hi girls finished in the top 25. Emily Childers finished eighth with a time of 24:34.72. The winner of the race was Nicole Dillavou of Pendleton and had a time of 21:44.86.
