International artist Marty Vreede and his wife, Marilyn, will be visiting Crow's Shadow Sept. 18 through Oct. 4 thanks to funding from a Fulbright Scholarship.
Marty Vreede is a printmaker and papermaker who teaches at the Universal College of Learning in Wanganui, New Zealand. Marilyn is a book artist from the indigenous Maori culture. A delegation of Crow's Shadow artists and staff met the Vreedes in 2008 during the New Zealand International Arts Festival.
Marty has expressed his desire to study stone lithography from Master Printer Frank Janzen and in return will teach a public workshop on woodcut printmaking, one of his areas of expertise. The Vreedes will also share their own backgrounds and experiences of Maori culture with various segments of the Umatilla Indian Reservation community.
Tentative dates for the woodcut workshop are the weekend of Sept. 26-27. Those interested in participating can call (541) 276-3954.
