H&R Block is celebrating the end of tax season with a "Block Party" hosted by Eastgate businesses.
From 9 a.m.to midnight Wednesday the tax preparation firm, 493 Wilbur Ave., will offer punch cards to those who drop in. Punches can be retrieved at businesses throughout the neighborhood. Those who return the card to H&R Block can enter a drawing for a gift basket to take place 9 a.m. Thursday.
According to H&R Block local Manager Heidi Kincheloe, several businesses will have special activities for punch-card holders. Those who don't can still offer punches.
Money Tree, which operates 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, and Java Hut, which runs 7 a.m.-5 p.m. that day, are two that will have special activities, Kincheloe said in the announcement.
For its part, H&R Block, the main sponsor for the event, will have a spinner set for discount tax returns for clients, as well as snacks. The office will remain open through midnight. For more details, call 529-7210.
A new and "pre-loved" children's and maternity store will be among the first tenants of the new Country Store Consignment Center.

The business is owned by Amber Miller, who buys and sells new and next-to-new items that are clean and checked for safety standards. Items purchased are name brand, trendy and clean, according to the Little Mud Pies Web site.
Hours of operation will be Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. For more details, call 629-PIES or visit: www.littlemudpies.vpweb.com.
