The Washington State Patrol is accepting applications for its WSP-Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Career Camp.
In its 33rd year, the camp runs from July 11-17 at the WSP Academy in Shelton. Applications are available online at wsp.wa.gov under "Outreach." The deadline to apply is May 14. The academy is open to high school juniors and seniors with an interest in law enforcement.
The academy is staffed by WSP troopers and police officers from state departments to instruct and serve as counselors. The staffing coordination offers students exposure to federal, state, county and local law enforcement. The academy is sponsored and paid for by Kiwanis clubs in the state.
Classes include demonstrations from SWAT teams, K-9 units, a driving course, and defensive tactics. The camp is set up to offer the students insight into possible careers in the field.
