WALLA WALLA — Sophomore guard Kati Isham pumped in 30 points to lead top-ranked Walla Walla Community College to a 90-53 victory over Columbia Basin in the NWAACC Eastern Region women’s basketball opener for both schools Saturday night at the Dietrich Dome.

Isham made 10-of-17 shots from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and stroked six free throws in eight tries. Her resume was further enhanced by eight rebounds and two assists.

The convincing triumph improved the Warriors’ spotless record to 12-0.

CBC, ranked eighth in the latest NWAACC poll, is now 8-4 overall.

Isham drained a 3 at the 13-minute mark of half one that gave WWCC its first double-digit lead of the night, 17-5.

Reserve Jamie Berghammer converted a three-point play with 3:55 remaining to build the Walla Walla advantage to 22, 37-15.

Shiann Dreadfulwater gave the Warriors their biggest lead of the half, 46-17, with a bucket just 39 seconds before halftime.

WWCC led 46-19 at intermission. It held the Hawks to 33-percent shooting (8-of-24) and forced 11 turnovers.

"Defensively, that’s about as well as we can play," Walla Walla coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. "I thought we were really prepared. The team carried out the game plan as well as any team ever has. We were focused and did everything right."

A Dreadfulwater jumper midway through the second half widened the spread to 33, 68-35.

The Warriors twice led by 35 — 70-35 and 88-53 — in the latter stages of the period before Morgan Wolff sank a pair of free throws with 11.6 seconds left for the final margin of conquest.

Nancy Johnson followed Isham with 17 points and Morgon VanderEsch added 10.

The Warriors suited up 12 players for the game. All of them entered and all of them scored at least two points.

"We’re going to need that," Hazeltine said. "It was a team win. I don’t know if we’re 37 points better than CBC, but tonight, we were."

Former Columbia-Burbank star Brianna Smith led CBC with 19 points and was 5-of-7 from outside the arc.

WWCC continues league play Wednesday at Blue Mountain.

"It’ll be a tough one over there," Hazeltine said. "There are no easy games (in the league). We’ll enjoy this one tonight and be in the film room tomorrow."
