RICHLAND — How do you shoot 13 percentage points higher from the field than your opponent and still lose? Let them shoot the ball 21 more times than you.

That’s precisely what the Wa-Hi Blue Devil girls did in dropping a Big Nine Conference basketball match to Hanford in overtime, 55-51 here Saturday.

"Unforced turnovers and second chances killed us," Wa-Hi assistant coach Anne Bickelhaupt said. "We just had a couple stretches where we needed to focus. Unforced errors pushed it into overtime."

Wa-Hi outboarded the Falcons 49-34, but 22 of Hanford’s rebounds came on the offensive glass. That, coupled with the 21-8 turnover margin, added up to the 21 extra-shot attempts that proved critical for the Falcon victory.

Wa-Hi was led in scoring by Jill McDaniels’ 24 points. Jamie Weisner added 15 more to the Blue Devils’ output.

Alicia Baker and Vicki Reardon registered a team high nine rebounds apiece.

Wa-Hi next plays a make-up game Tuesday at home against Eisenhower.
