Four individual champions spark Pomeroy to second at Royal Rumble


ROYAL CITY, Wash. — Pomeroy wrestled here Saturday at the Royal Rumble against 13 other teams, most of which were from the Class 1A ranks.

The Class 2B Pirates came away with four individual champions and a second-place team finish.

"We got there last night (Friday) and slept on the mats," Pirate coach Derek Shawley said. "(Then) we wrestled real well. It was a great showing."

Pomeroy got championship and undefeated performances from Scott Wolf at 152 pounds, Tory Knebel at 160, Klyntin Bott at 189, and Mat Slaybaugh wrestled his way to the top of the 215 class.

The victories by Knebel and Bott marked their fourth tournament victories in four tourney appearances. Knebel improved his individual record to 20-0. Bott’s record climbed to 20-1.

Jacob Moore at 135, Justin Aldrich (who lost to Knebel in the 160 final) and Austin Reisdorph at 171 pounds, each earned a second-place finish for the Pirates.

Wyatt Jenkins at 145 and Tyler Reisdorph at 189 each earned third-place points for Pomeroy.

Jeff Warren wrestled to a fourth-place finish at 285.

The Pirates earned their second-place finish behind tournament champion, Class 1A and tourney host Royal.

Pomeroy travels to the Kittitas Tournament Saturday.
