Bears finish fourth in annual Sweet Invite

The Bears lose to Hanford and the Toyota Baseball Club on Sunday.

WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Bears ended up fourth in their annual summer baseball tournament that wrapped up Sunday afternoon.

Walla Walla was doubled up by Hanford, 8-4, in a semi-final contest Sunday morning on Walla Walla Community College's Tausick Way field and were outlasted by the Toyota Baseball Club, 19-18, in the third- and fourth-places game at Borleske Stadium.

"We swung the bats real well," Walla Walla coach Blaine Mercado said. "We did not perform very well on the mound. We gave a lot of effort and I can't fault them for that."

Northwest Star Academy edged Hanford, 9-8, in eight innings in the championship game at WWCC. Its appearance in the title game was secured when it nipped Toyota Baseball Club, 8-7, at Borleske Stadium Sunday morning.

The Bears conclude their season this weekend when they compete at a tournament in Sandy, Ore., beginning Thursday.
