Betty Lou Mayfield
October 10, 1934 - July 25, 2010
Betty Lou Mayfield, 75, lost her battle with cancer peacefully on July 25, 2010, while at home surrounded by her family who loved her deeply.
Betty was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Glyndon, Minn., to Hilma Gertrude Dahl and Alvin Olaf Hanson. After leaving Glyndon, Betty and family moved to Fargo, N.D., where she attended school. Betty met and married the love of her life, Leonard Mayfield, and they were able to share 55 years together. The family moved to Walla Walla on April 1, 1960, after accepting a transfer through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Betty was a homemaker and daycare provider. Betty loved to play bingo and pinochle. She also loved to work in her garden, take care of the family home and walk her beloved dog, Gretchen. Betty clearly loved her children and grandchildren who returned her love 10-fold.
Betty is survived by Leonard Sr. at the family home; children and spouses, Peggy and John Munns of Tukwila, Wash., Penny Miller of Tri-Cities, Leonard and Linda Mayfield of Chatteroy, Wash., Robert and Pam Christensen of Wallace, Idaho; 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Joe and John Booth Munns, Steve Ledum, Zach Agee, Gage and Jarrett Miller, Meghan, Nick and Jacob Mayfield and Dustin Christensen; and three great-granddaughters, Bryanna, Sophia and Belen. She is also survived by her sisters, Tootsie Jensen and twin sister Donna Mae Stronstead; and two nephews, Jack and Jerry Jensen She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilma; father, Alvin; sister, Peggy; and three brothers, Robert, Ronald and Richard.
A special thank you to Betty's daughters, Penny, Peggy and Pam, who cared for their mother in her final days. The family would also like to thank her Hospice nurse Brenda Swenson (Linda and Nancy) for providing her with such loving care.
Cremation was held and a private gathering will be held at the Christensen's cabin on Black Lake, Idaho. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers you may give a living memorial in Betty's name to Hospice or to Relay for Life through Professional Funeral Directors Crematory, 315 W.
