Raymond Cuckler

Raymond Eugene Cuckler, 86, of Yuma, AZ, died March 15, 2010, at his home. He was born November 1923 at Wilsonville, NE. to Edward and Jessie Cuckler. He graduated from Cambridge, Nebraska High School 1941, served the U.S. Army in the South Pacific in WWII. He married Arva Gene Walters on December 27, 1947, at Cambridge, NE. In January of 1951 he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BSCE degree. Raymond and Arva Gene had three sons, Robert, Stephen and Michael.

Raymond spent most of his working career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In January of 1979 he retired from the Walla Walla District as Chief of Design Section. During his service he was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal.He then established the firm of R. J. Consultants Engineering, which operated from January 1979 to June of 1985. During this time he also served as a consultant for the British Power Authority and as a Construction Specialist for Washington Public Power Supply System on Nuclear Projects 3 and 5 at Elma, WA.

Raymond was a member of the Walla Walla City Council, served on the Children's Home Society of Washington Board, the Elks Building Committee, the Board of Adjustments and the Board for Abatement of Dangerous Buildings.On retirement he enjoyed traveling, golf, painting, and was an accomplished wood carver.Raymond was a member of the Yuma Elks and the Foothills Carvers of Yuma.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Ray, parents Edward and Jessie Cuckler, brothers Lynn, Lyle, Ashton, Lee and wife Irene, Dean and wife Eleanor, Gordon and wife Winnie, Howard and wife Ruby, sisters Lois, Helen and husband C.T. Jewell, Hazel and husband Ralph Raines, sister-in-law Meredith Canada and husband Earl, Betty Walters, Velma Millard, and brother-in-law Willis Walters.

Raymond is survived by his wife Jean at home, son Robert Cuckler of Seattle, WA, son Michael Cuckler and wife Kathleen of Austin, TX, grandchildren Clay and Sara of Lewisville, TX, and Sean and Samantha of Austin, TX. Raymond is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial of Raymond's life was held at 2 p.m., March 20, 2010, at Sunset Vista Funeral Home in Yuma, AZ. Grave side services will be held at Bertrand, NE at a later date.
