Pitching paces Irish sweep of Gar-Pal

WALLA WALLA - Pat Richard and Matt Wujek, with relief help from Kyle Lindgren, hurled a pair of one-hitters to help DeSales sweep a non-conference baseball twin bill from Garfield-Palouse here Thursday.

Richard worked three innings and Lindgren came on in the fourth to help the Irish post a 12-0 win in the opener.

Matt Wujek fanned 18 batters and walked three through six innings in Desales' 8-4 second-game win.

Lindgren worked the seventh frame on the mound for DeSales.

Lindgren, Victor Mata and Logan Hoeft banged out two hits apiece in the first game.

Tommy Gregg hit safely twice in the nightcap. He and Mata had three hits each on the day.

"We played well," DeSales coach Kim Cox said. "We were coming off of a poor outing, and we played well.

"Gar-Pal is a young team," he added. "They lost some good players from last year.

"But our pitchers threw well," Cox said. "Wujek was sharper than he has been. He needed to have a good outing.

"Tommy Gregg swung the bat well," he added. "And our freshmen have been playing well."

DeSales next plays a 4 p.m. single game at Burbank on April 6.
