Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office worker focus of investigation

The state Auditor's Office and Washington State Patrol are looking into a possible misappropriation of funds, officials say.

WALLA WALLA -- Two state agencies are investigating the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office for a possible misappropriation of funds.

Mindy Chambers, director of communications for the state Auditor's Office, confirmed the auditor's office is investigating "a possible misappropriation of funds" that dates from September of last year.

The Washington State Patrol also investigated the alleged misappropriation and the state auditor's office has been waiting for the results of that probe before starting their work to avoid duplication of effort, Chambers said. The auditor's office has received those results and are examining them now, but no further information has been released at this time.

Sheriff Mike Humphreys said any comments on the case would have to come from county Prosecuting Attorney Jim Nagle. An attempt to contact Nagle this afternoon was not successful.
