LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - Don't burden taxpayers with new school

It has been brought to my attention that a rebuilding of Wa-Hi has been proposed. I have seen a drawing of the proposal and there is one little thing that was missing from the drawing - the price! What it will cost the property owner?

This possible increase couldn't come at a worse time. The economy at the local and national levels could continue to deteriorate in the near future.

Over the past few years the taxpayers have repaired or replaced several schools and are also paying for a new fire station, to build a school bus facility and to build a new police complex.

In the near future the taxpayer will have to pay for a new sewer and water system, which should have been done before anything else. This is a necessity we cannot put aside or let wait to a future date.

City of Walla Walla officials have got to understand we the taxpayers are fed up and nearly broke. The town of Walla Walla is no different than the state or the federal governments.

The taxpayers do not have a never-ending supply of money. We are not like the federal government - we cannot go into our basements and print more money. Disaster lies just ahead for many of us.

This proposal to rebuild the high school must fail. People will say the school is crowded and for a better education we must rebuild. How in the world does a building teach?

Put in several more teaching pods and split up the classes. Hiring new teachers to teach in these pods will be cheaper than building a new high school or rebuilding the one we have.

We have to work with what we have until we pay something off! When my household wants something we have to wait and make do until we have the money to pay for it.

Walla Walla should have to do the same thing. Quit asking a broke tax base to pay for more. Our pockets do not drag on the ground.

There are a lot of renters in Walla Walla who do not pay property taxes. So it's up to the property owners to pay the taxes and we are fed up.
