WALLA WALLA -- A man who allegedly broke into a woman's home and assaulted her in January pleaded innocent Monday afternoon in Superior Court to three crimes.

Patrick M. Walmsley, 41, of 37 W. Imperial St., is scheduled for trial April 12 and 13 on charges of first-degree burglary -- domestic violence, second-degree assault -- domestic violence, and malicious mischief.

Police said Walmsley entered the bedroom window of Rachel Scott at 410 Chase Ave., Apt. 103, about 1 a.m. on Jan. 16. He then struck Scott in the mouth with a baseball bat, tearing her bottom lip and causing it to bleed, according to a police report filed in court.

Walmsley then allegedly used the bat to smash the apartment's front picture window as Scott was calling 911. Walmsley was detained outside by a witness who ordered him to drop the bat and get on the ground until police arrived.

Walmsley and Scott have been friends since they were children. Walmsley recently had pressed Scott to enter into a dating relationship with him, but she rebuffed his advances, according to the police report.

He was booked into the County Jail, but was released on bond three days later.
