Oct. 6, 1917 - Feb. 8, 2011
Irene K. Fisher, was called to heaven on Feb. 8, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with many health issues. She was born Oct. 6, 1917, to Allen and Rose Kennedy in the Walla Walla Valley and has lived there her entire life.
As a young woman she graduated from McLaughlin Union High School and attended Warner Pacific College. Irene married Glen R. Fisher on Nov. 22, 1939. She was an active member of Blue Mountain Community Church. Irene was also active in PTA when her children were young, Business and Professional Women and various garden clubs. She worked for many years as the secretary to the principal and superintendent of schools at College Place School. She later took great pride in starting the very first bookstore at Walla Walla Community College. Mrs Fisher's dedication to her family and her church was so important to her. She was known to be an incredible cook and avid gardener, and she loved to entertain her friends and family.
A favorite memory of her daughter, daughter-in-law and all her grandchildren was having tea parties with grandma. Irene loved to prepare a tea party complete with fancy linens, china and homemade pastries. She made sure her guests had donned a fancy hat, fur stoles, gloves and dressed up just enough to make everyone giggle while sipping tea with her!
Irene is survived by her son, Delwyn Glen Fisher and Friede of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and her daughter, Cheryl Rose Lutton and Lyle of Sisters, Ore. She was a wonderful grandmother to JoLee Hehn, Kimberly Fisher, Lisa Schmidt, Acacia Fisher and Alissa Fisher. She has seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, sister; grandson, Kevin Roy Fisher; and her beloved husband, Glen R. Fisher, of 64 years.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and she will be missed always. We will miss her love, kindness and smiles. We love you Mom and Grandma!
