Where's the outrage?
The news from Egypt has occupied our media during the past month, so it is "somewhat" understandable why we might not hear about a relatively insignificant story - corruption in Honduras.
Honduras is a neighboring country - a country that exports a significant percentage of the bananas we consume in the U.SA. Honduras is a country that used to be known as one of the "banana republics."
I'm one who believes knowledge is power and knowing what is going on in one of our neighboring countries could help to bring about change. This is a very long story, and I'm not going to attempt to tell it in a brief letter to the editor document.
Instead, I'm going to give you some references and ask you to do a little research - then act on your knowledge.
On either Google or Bing, look up the Aguan Valley and read some of the articles listed there. Also read the article by Jeff Conant in the link alternet.org.
We know what is right and what is wrong and what is going on in Honduras is wrong. Now, we all need to think about how to change the corruption and oppression that is going on there.
It's wake-up time
In the past two-plus years, Americans have had a media define "bailouts," "investments too big to fail" and "comprehensive" (as applied to spending bills of thousands of pages few legislators actually read before rubber-stamping).
Now a lot of Americans have been absorbing the effects of "the law of unintended consequences" that has resulted. No one in my acquaintance can see any end in sight for the bailout, stimulus efforts or continued support of whatever failed policies prompted government takeovers of banks, insurances and car companies. Add all the "real estate" that is "under water."
We've saddled unborn generations with an unheard of indebtedness without a single positive improvement on any of these fronts. And the repeated "solution" being offered is this same type of "investing" with no end in sight and we are urged to be "patient" with the snail's-pace employment rate projected to last as much as 10 years!
I hope Americans decide now to study our Constitution and become more personally acquainted with the term "accountability." Every legislator, every person elected to any city, state, county, federal or judicial office has a "job description" in the Constitution. None of the bureaucrats, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, EPA, OSHA, tax-dodging staffers of legislators are mentioned in the Constitution and are not held accountable by taxpaying voters and certainly not by the media.
Matters not whether you are a Democrat, Republican or independent, it's wake up time in America.
Earth Journal deserves larger font
I always enjoy reading Earth Journal printed directly below the weather information. Is there any chance this could be printed in your regular size font? I think it deserves it!

Platoon teaching very positive
It was interesting to read the article on platoon teaching at Blue Ridge Elementary School. I attended grade school in Portland in the 1930s and 1940s where such a system existed.
As a former teacher in the Walla Walla School District, I subscribe to the adage, "What goes around comes around." Each time we tried a new/old way in our classrooms we hoped to improve our teaching and improve a child's ability.
I have also come to strongly believe an excellent, caring teacher can make the difference and I have taught along side many exceptional examples. Sometimes a teacher can spark a love of a subject through the passion he/she shows for that subject and can project it to many students in the platoon system.
Although there are many pros and cons in education, as a young student my experience with the platoon teaching system was very positive.
Don't allow freedom to be taken
I am so sick and tired of what is going on in this country! We once were a great county, and we had rights. Now, we are no longer in a country of freedom.
We now have a president who goes into places he does not belong. What happened to our rights?
Who does Obama think he is, telling us what is right and what is wrong when he has no idea himself? He is not truthful and has no business being in office. The things he is doing are against the Constitution.
Why should Obama be able to tell us what we can eat, or what we can feed our children? I have nieces and nephews and grandchildren who will not eat school lunches. They say the food smells awful when being cooked.
So, feeding them unappetizing stuff they won't eat is healthy? Our freedoms are being taken away! The good old U.S. is no longer free. We are now under a dictator who tells us we have to do what he tells us to do. I've got news for Obama - I am not someone he can force to do anything! If it's not constitutional, forget it!
We need to band together and stand for our rights! Too much has already been taken from us.
I believe Obama wants to make us just like the rest of the Third World countries. If others are afraid to speak up, well, I am sorry, but I am not! And I will continue to speak up for my U.S.! This is my country and I love it!
We have always been a country of freedoms. That's why people come here. Mr. Obama, do not harm our country!
