Victim in Third Avenue shooting dead

WALLA WALLA - A city resident shot Sunday night in front of his home by an unknown assailant has died.

Kevin A. Myrick, 24, of 1123 S. Third Ave., was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. today at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He had been flown there for treatment late Sunday night, said police spokesman Officer Tim Bennett.

Police were sent to Myrick's residence at 10:23 p.m. for a reported assault and found him walking around outside and bleeding profusely. He was taken to a local hospital, at which time police learned he had been shot, Bennett said.

Myrick was living at the residence with a young woman, but she is not considered a suspect, Bennett said. Police also believe at this time the shooting is not gang-related.

An autopsy has been scheduled with the King County Medical Examiner's office and Walla Walla police are working with the county Sheriff's Office on the case.

Bennett said that while several interviews have already been conducted and some leads have come in, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about Myrick's death is asked to call the Police Department at 527-1960.
