Helen Chase of Walla Walla, passed away March 13, 2011, at her home at the age of 87 years. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St., Walla Walla. Those who wish may make memorial
contributions in memory of Helen Chase to the Walla Walla Community College scholarship fund in care of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Helen Tschudi Chase was born on June 20, 1923, the daughter of Frank N. and Helen (Briggs) Tschudi in Denver. As a young child she lived in La Jolla, Calif., for a time before moving back to Denver, where she attended East High School, graduating in June 1940. Helen continued her education at Fairmont School and Junior College, graduating with an associate degree in June of 1942 in Washington D.C. It was while in junior high school Helen met her husband to be, Alpha Manley Chase, and on Sept. 10, 1943, they were married in Denver. From 1942 to 1948 Helen worked as a medical secretary at Denver General Hospital in the psychiatric ward. In 1949, Helen and Al started their family and Helen stayed at home. She volunteered her time to numerous things, including the Donut Dolly working for the Red Cross in the canteen during World War II and made hospital visits with the Alter Guild of the Ascension Church as well. In 1989 she moved to Walla Walla, where she became a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and continued to volunteer her time with the Alter Guild. Helen
enjoyed fishing, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include her children, Nancy E. Kessler of Milton-Freewater, John M. Chase of Spokane, and Anne T. Chase of Walla Walla; a grandson, Ryan C. Kessler of Seattle; and other relatives and friends. Her parents and husband, Al, all preceded her in death.
