CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won its 10th straight match with a 9-0 victory over the Whitman College women's tennis team here Saturday.
CMS, now 10-1 on the season, is ranked No. 21 nationally in NCAA Division III.
Saturday's loss ended Whitman's Spring Break trip to California and leaves the Missionaries with an 8-7 record on the season.
The Missionaries, ranked No. 10 in the West Region, are 6-2 in the Northwest Conference and resume conference play next weekend.
Whitman made its best showing against the Athenas in the opening round of doubles matches.
Senior Elise Otto and sophomore Alyssa Roberg dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles to Kristin Lim and Crystal Lim, a duo that finished second at last fall's ITA National Small College Championships.
Junior Lizzy Schiller and first-year teammate Hannah Palkowitz also lost 8-6, losing at No. 3 doubles to Brittan Sutphin and Victoria Santoro.
Junior Emily Rolston and sophomore Kate Kunkel-Patterson had no luck at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-0 to Chloe Dobbert and Jessie Huang.
In the No. 1 singles match, Kristin Lim rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Roberg. Lim won the singles title at last fall's Small College Championships.
Otto fared a little bit better at No. 2 singles, losing 6-2, 6-2 to Crystal Lim.
The Athenas also posted straight-set victories in the other four matches in singles.
Whitman returns home to host Pacific in an NWC match at 10 a.m. Saturday.
