WALLA WALLA - DeSales golfers won the boys and girls rounds in its first DeSales Wine Valley Invitational at Wine Valley Golf Course Tuesday.
Ryan Baumgart was the medalist for the boys with a 76 on the par-72 course, while Ashton Montgomery hit a 54 on the par-36 nine-hole for the girls.
"It was pretty decent," said DeSales coach Lon Olson. "It rained and we had a little wind, but it wasn't bad. No one lost a club in the follow through or anything like that."
Olson was pleased with Baumgart's score.
"He was real steady and had a real good score under those conditions," Olson said. "He was real close to shooting par."
DeSales' boys won with 250, Tri-Cities Prep's boys were second with 275, Dayton/Waitsburg-Prescott third with 280 and Liberty Christian fourth with 294.
DeSales' other scores were Bryce Scott with 84 and Gerod Konen's 90; Ben Wolpert's 106 didn't count. Benjamin Miedema shot 62 on nine holes and Andrew Hayunga shot 63 on nine.
The DeSales boys took first, third and fifth out of 14 players.
"I was pleased with that," he said.
Dayton's Dain Henderson shot an 85 and Jaron Button shot a 99.
Dakota Baker, the lone Waitsburg-Prescott golfer, shot a 96 to count toward the Dayton team total.
DeSales won the girls' side with 111 on nine holes.
Alyssa Lyons shot a 57, Kelly Martin had a 66 and Grace Burrows 77 to combine with Montgomery's score.
Tr-Cities Prep had a 112. Dayton does not field a girls team.
"We're going to keep working on it," Olson said of the girls. "But with those conditions, I think the scores were about what they should be."
