PASCO - Heavy rain and driving wind shortened an 18-hole round to nine, but it didn't slow down Wa-Hi's girl's golf team at Sun Willows Monday afternoon.
"The rain was so bad the girls could hardly hold onto the club," said Wa-Hi coach Mike Patterson.
The Blue Devils finished with a 191 for third place. Richland was first with a 161 and host Chiawana was second with a 190.
Richland's Kristin Strankman was the medalist, carding a 38 on the par-36 course.
Wa-Hi was led by Jessica Huntsman, who picked up fourth place with a 42. Cassie Patterson and Shanna Postlewait tied for 11th with 49s, Kendall Dunovant was 17th with a 51 and Larissa Mercado stroked a 57.
Although the weather was worse than an earlier spring match the Blue Devils hosted, Patterson was pleased with the scores.
"The girls really bounced back and played extremely well in the weather," he said, citing horizontal rain and harsh wind.
Richland leads the current 4A Big Nine standings with 35 points. Wenatchee has 28, Chiawana is third with 25 and Wa-Hi fourth with 21.
The teams head to Yakima next Tuesday for their final pod match of the year. Districts begin May 16.
