YAKIMA - Two-time defending champion Walla Walla Community College earned the right to defend its Yakima Valley College tournament title here Saturday night with a 64-55 victory over NWAACC Eastern Region rival Blue Mountain.

The Warriors will face a familiar foe in today's title game at 2 p.m. WWCC will oppose East opponent and tourney host Yakima Valley, who it has defeated in two previous tournament championship games.

The teams have played for the NWAACC crown the past two seasons. Walla Walla captured the title in 2010 and YVC won it a season ago.

Stevie Humphries led the Warriors in Saturday's win with 13 points and Sienna Edmunson added 11. Alex Pfefferle contributed nine points and an equal number of rebounds to the Walla Walla cause.

"It (the game) was very balanced with some great plays from the women," WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said.

The Warriors were up 30-17 at halftime and led by as many as 17 in the second half. Blue Mountain got no closer than six points after that.

"We went on a run, hit some 3s and they were missing," Hazeltine said. "Then they started driving (to the basket) and got it to six, but we made free throws down the stretch.

"This was a good game for us - to withstand the pressure they threw at us," Hazeltine said.

WWCC outrebounded the Timberwolves 65-44. Tai Jensen and Hailey Felgenhauer followed Pfefferle with six apiece.
