8:50 a.m. 11/30/11 - UPDATED WITH REACTIONS FROM TWITTER AND FACEBOOK
FROM A WWPD PRESS RELEASE:
The Walla Walla Emergency Services Unit SWAT Team and Negotiators continue the standoff at 1809 Plaza Way, Space #5 as of 3:30 a.m. this date.
PD Officers were attempting to arrest a known gang member on a felony warrant at the trailer park when they retreated inside the residence at 4pm Tuesday afternoon. Due to information received of firearms inside the residence, the SWAT Team and Negotiators were called out a short time later. The SWAT team approached the residence and deployed a hostage throw phone. Negotiators have attempted contact with the suspects inside, and continue to do so at this time. SWAT and patrol officers from the PD and the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office have a perimeter set up around the mobile home and are not allowing nearby residents to return.
Due to the length of time since the incident started, officers on scene are being rotated out and more officers are being called in to assist. Over 30 law enforcement officers are currently at the scene.
At least two suspects are believed to be inside the residence. Skyler Glasby, 23, and Joseph D. de Jesus, 20, are both known gang affiliates and have felony warrants for their arrest. De Jesus is wanted for the gang shooting that occurred on October 8th in the 300 block of N 6th where a subject was shot in the leg. There is a Probable Cause Affidavit for the arrest of Glasby reference passing counterfeit currency in the Walla Walla area earlier this month.
More details will be provided as they become available.
