LA GRANDE - Mac-Hi's Lucas Simpson won the Dry Side Shootout cross country race on the campus of Eastern Oregon University Friday.
Simpson finished the 5,000-meter course in 17:56.7, 30 seconds ahead of La Grande's Williams Densmore.
"It was a great race by Lucas," Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said. "He led from start to finish."
The Pioneers' Jesus Saldana finished sixth in 19:16.0, Andrew Kain was ninth in 20:24.7, and Abraham Garcia was 13th in 21:36.8.
On the girls' side, Pioneer Josie Lonai placed second in 21:36.5.
Walla Walla Valley Academy's Jessica Arnzen was third in 23:47.9, with teammate McKenzie Cosaert in fifth in 24:30.4.
Mac-Hi's Kristi Childers was sixth in 24:36.4.
Lauren Spickelmier from WWVA finished 10th in 25:38.8.
Other Pioneer finishers were Jackie Martinez (15th, 27:53.5), Saira Saustina (18th, 32:04.5) and Maria Saldana (20th, 33:56.0).
Other Mac-Hi boys finishers included Juan Diaz (15th, 21:40.4), David Munoz (16th, 21:53.3), Tyler McElrath (20th, 22:23.8), Ruben Medina (21st, 22:30.6), Taylor Hodgen (22nd, 22:33.9), Cody Harmon (23rd, 22:36.1), Miguel Medina (24th, 22:59.8), Carlos Angel (25th, 23:20.3), Ethan Taylor (27th, 23:32.7), Austin Cousineau (28th, 24:11.9) and Jacob Fox (29th (24:12.2).
"It was a great day for us, overall," Milleson said. "Despite the cold and rain, we had good performances."
