ATHENA - Weston-McEwen finished second in its annual invitational volleyball tournament here Saturday, sponsored by its athletic booster club.
The TigerScots were nipped in the championship match by Elgin, 28-30, 25-15, 18-16.
Eight teams participted in the tourney.
Weston-McEwen began the day with pool play. It defeated Helix, 25-3, 25-10, and Pilot Rock, 25-11, 25-8.
W-M ended pool play by splitting two sets with Waitsburg-Prescott, losing the opener, 25-23, and winning the second, 25-16.
As a result, the TigerScots won a tiebreaker for higher bracket seeding based on points scored.
Weston-McEwen downed Enterprise in the quarterfinals, 25-27, 25-14, 15-7, and Dayton, 25-14, 26-24, in the semifinals before losing to Elgin.
Statistical leaders included Morgan Entze with 104 assists, 12 kills, and 12 aces; Molly vonBorstel with 44 digs and 57 kills; Taylor Rudolph with 31 digs and 14 kills; Katy West with 31 kills and six blocks; Marlene Bodmer with eight kills, eight blocks, and nine aces; Jaymie Zimmerman with three kills and eight aces; Melanie Sederburg with seven kills and three blocks; McKayla Carlin with 72 digs; McKenzie Fuhrman with 15 digs and 10 aces; and Dani Dearing with 16 digs and four aces.
"It was a good day for us," W-M coach Shawn White said. "We continue to get better. I'm proud of the improvement we've made this week. We fought hard and made some good plays. We learned how to get tough and play tough teams. We'll keep working hard to get better."
The TigerScots open Blue Mountain Conference play on Thursday at Enterprise.
