ATHENA - Weston-McEwen started fast and finished with a flurry here Thursday afternoon as the TigerScots split a non-league softball doubleheader with Mac-Hi's junior varsity squad.

The Morgan Entze and Molly von Borstel slugged solo home runs in the bottom of the first inning of the first game as the TigerScots assumed a 3-2 lead, but Weston-McEwen's offense was nearly silent the rest of the way and the Pioneers rallied for four runs in the fifth inning to post a 6-4 victory.

In the second game, Mac-Hi pitcher Colette Robert blanked the TigerScots through six innings. But Weston-McEwen used timely hitting and heads-up base running to score three times in the bottom of the seventh and pull out a 3-2 victory.

The split leaves W-M with a 4-2 record heading into Monday's scheduled non-league single game in Touchet. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Taylor Entze had two RBI singles in the opener for W-M, but she saved her biggest hit for last, a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game that drove home Molly von Borstel from second base with the winning run.

"She had quite a day," TigerScots coach said of Taylor Entze, a freshman who pitched the second game for W-M.

McKenzie Fuhrman started the TigerScots' winning rally in the nightcap by reaching first base on a dropped third strike. Morgan Entze followed with an RBI double for W-M's first run and then advanced to third base on a passed ball.

Von Borstel put down a perfect squeeze bunt that scored Morgan Entze from third. And when Mac-Hi failed to cover second base on the play, von Borstel scampered to second. After an infield fly for the second out of the inning, Taylor Entze came through with her game-winning hit.

Morgan Entze had four hits on the day for the TigerScots while von Borstel and Taylor Entze finished with three each. Robert had three hits in the first game and four on the day for the Pioneers, Adriene Streeter and Makayla Kelly totaled three hits each Katie Woodhall hit safely in each game.
