I have had the opportunity to work with Richard Wernette during the past nine years that he has served as Municipal Court judge for the city of College Place.
During this time, Richard has proved himself to be fair and impartial, holding wrongdoers accountable yet taking the time to hear and evaluate all pertinent information presented to him and maintaining a degree of compassion. Despite this, he wastes no time with irrelevant claims and motions, handling the caseload efficiently.
I have no doubt Richard would carry these valuable assets with him into the position of Superior Court judge for the county of Walla Walla.
I know Richard's opponent, Scott Wolfram, as well, and believe him to also be an honorable man, capable of serving as Superior Court judge. Both candidates have prior experience serving as court commissioner in Superior Court.
Judge Wernette has had seven years of experience in this capacity, as well as 21 years serving as judge pro tem in Walla Walla District Court. He has considerable criminal experience as well as extensive experience as a Municipal Court judge, which I believe give him the edge in this closely contested race.
While I wish Judge Wernette great success in advancing his career as Superior Court judge, I will also miss him a great deal when he vacates his position as our Municipal Court judge.
Nevertheless, I ask you to please join me in voting for Richard Wernette for Superior Court judge on Aug. 7.
