PORTLAND — Two college students who robbed two credit union branches in 2010 were sentenced in federal court Monday in Portland to five years' probation, avoiding prison.
The two — 24-year-old Brittney Anne Sykes Caudle and 21-year-old Emma Caday Westhusing — pleaded guilty to bank robbery charges for holdups at Rivermark Community Credit Union branches in the Gresham and Clackamas.
The Oregonian reports prosecutors asked for prison time for the two.
But Judge Garr M. King said he was impressed that both have expressed remorse and both have jobs and are taking college classes again. Both also have been receiving help for mental and emotional problems.
