Dayton parent reports strangers gave kids candy


DAYTON — The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is asking community members to be alert for a white passenger vehicle that sparked concerned after a Dayton parent reported strangers offering candy to children on West Patit Avenue in Dayton, Wednesday night.

Dian McClurg, the public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said a local parent called officers after his children reported a man and a woman driving a small, white passenger car offered them sweets.

“It’s the first report we have for it,” McClurg Said. “So far it’s isolated.”

McClurg added that deputies looked for a white car with out-of-state license plates, but were unable to locate the suspicious vehicle. McClurg urged parents to “let us know if you see something suspicious.”
