PORTLAND — The 2013 West Coast League schedule has been released, with each of the 11 teams playing 54-games in a revised divisional set-up.
The Walla Walla Sweets open their fourth season at 7:05 p.m. on June 5 Borleske Stadium against the Bend Elks.
Start times this season will be the same as last year, with all games slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. except Sundays, when game begin at 5:05 p.m.
“Earlier in the offseason we asked a number of fans if they would prefer an earlier start time,” said Sweets general manager Zachary Fraser. “The overwhelming response was to keep start times as they were in 2012, so we listened to our fans and have maintained our traditional start times.”
The Sweets are scheduled to play a total of 60 games during the 2013 season, with 33 home games and 27 on the road. Of the 33 regular season home games, 27 will be against league opponents and six against non-league teams.
The league is adding the Victoria (British Columbia) HarbourCats and Medford (Oregon) Rogues for the upcoming season, with the HarbourCats joining the new North Division, while the Rogues in the new South Division.
The North Division includes the HarbourCats, Kelowna Falcons, Bellingham Bells, Wenatchee AppleSox and Walla Walla Sweets.
The South Division is comprised of the Rogues, Klamath Falls Gems, Bend Elks, Corvallis Knights, Cowlitz Black Bears and Kitsap BlueJackets.
“We’re happy with the continued growth of the WCL footprint,” added Fraser. “It will be exciting to host these new teams in Walla Walla, and give them an opportunity to experience our stadium, our community, and the best fans in the West Coast League.”
The Sweets will also play at home on July 4, hosting the Kitsap BlueJackets at 3:05 p.m.
The WCL regular season concludes Aug. 11.
The defending West Coast League champion Wenatchee AppleSox open defense of their crown at home on June 5, taking on the team they defeated in the 2012 WCL Championship Series, the Corvallis Knights.
The top two finishers in each division will advance to postseason play.
