Pomeroy downs Dayton, 45-35

DAYTON — Cody LaMunyan scored 14 points to lead Pomeroy to a 45-35 victory over Dayton in non-conference boys basketball action here Saturday night.

Dayton’s Wyatt Frame led all scorers in the game with 17 points.

“Cody made some really tough shots,” Dayton coach Roy Ramirez said. “He shot with somebody right in his face. We defended him really well. When they had to make the shots, they made them.”

Pomeroy led 14-7 after one quarter and 27-16 at halftime.

“Both teams played defense really well,” Ramirez said. “We got it to six at one time (in the fourth quarter). It was a well-played game.”

The Pirates nipped the Bulldogs, 14-13, in the third quarter.

“They hit some big shots in that third quarter,” Ramirez said. “We made some shots and they matched us.”

Pomeroy was able to hang on despite scoring just four points in the fourth quarter.

“Offensively, we were a little sluggish coming off our first league game (Friday) night,” Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said. “The kids were losing their legs in the fourth quarter. But I want to give Roy a lot of credit. He does a heck of a job.”
