PORTLAND — Walla Walla Community College’s women’s basketball team commenced a three-game, three-day road trip this weekend with two victories in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

The Warriors, No. 4 in this season’s first NWAACC coaches poll, steamrolled Portland Community College on Saturday, 89-44, after besting Mt. Hood, 55-41, on Friday.

WWCC will take a 6-1 record into a matchup with Clark at 2 p.m. Sunday.

In Saturday’s pummeling of the Panthers, Caitlin Duncan led the way with 16 points and was 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Michelle Seitz and Hailey Felgenhauer added 12 points apiece and Allie Kelsey chipped in with 11.

“Caitlin came alive with four 3s and our sophomores played well,” WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. “Caitlin and Hailey are scoring a lot. Brooke (Hawkins) is doing a great job at the point.

“Michelle guarded (Kiara Berry), who averages 20 points a game — she (Berry) had one at halftime,” Hazeltine said. “Michelle’s (performance) was our best defensive effort of the year.

“Allie and Caitlin hit three 3s in the second half, and that opened it up for Hailey (inside),” Hazeltine said. “We talked about playing a full game (Saturday). Our defense was good the whole game. A lot of kids got to play.”

Felgenhauer, who completed a double-double with 10 rebounds on Saturday, led the Warriors with 22 points and eight boards against Mt. Hood. Duncan was the only other Warrior in double figures with 14.
