LAS VEGAS — Kaycee Feild won the eighth round of the National Finals Rodeo on Thursday night with an 87-point ride on Kate's Hot Sister to increase his lead in the bareback season standings.

Field, the defending champion from Payson, Utah, has earned $222,475 this season, and also leads the event aggregate standings with two rounds left. Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas, who placed second with an 85 on Three B's, remained second with $182,283.

In the NFR aggregate standings, Feild has 672 points for eight rides. He has cashed checks by finishing among the top six in every round except the seventh, and leads all bareback riders with $80,636 in the NFR.

“I just need to keep it up and get on each horse with a mindset of no mistakes and concentrate on perfect rides,” Feild said. “I was really disappointed with myself last night. I fell off and hit my head, which happens quite a bit.

“Tonight I tried to forget about last night. I'm happy with the way everything is turning out. Bareback is one of the most physical events at the NFR. Your neck gets real sore, so you can't tuck your chin to see if the horse is going right or left. Staying strong is my main goal. I had a little bobble last night, and it put a spark under me.”

In steer wrestling, three-time and defending world champion Luke Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif., remained atop the standings with $147,184 after failing to placing among the top six with a 4.8-second run.
