In the Minutes - Port of Walla Walla

Port of Walla Walla commissioners are Paul Schneidmiller, Ron Dunning and Mike Fredrickson. With all present Thursday, the commission:

Presentation of award: Don Burton, Tri-Cities based transportation security manager for the Transportation Security Administration, presented a plaque of appreciation to Walla Walla Regional Airport and Port officials for cooperative efforts to build relationships.

Public comments: Walla Walla resident Carlan Bradshaw requested commissioners not increase the salary of the Port’s executive director, who was scheduled for his performance evaluation in an executive session at the end of the regular meeting. Commissioners did not reconvene afterward to take any action.

Comprehensive Plan: Commissioners postponed adoption of a new Comprehensive Scheme of Harbor Improvements. Instead they will consider further “tweaks,” expected to be posted in a week to give the public time to comment. The comp plan will be on the Dec. 27 agenda for adoption.

Metropolitan Planning Organization: Agreed to adoption of an interlocal cooperation agreement to establish the Walla Walla Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization. Unanimous.

Railex Road design: Approved a conceptual design for extension of Railex Road. Unanimous.

Lot layout plan: Reviewed a conceptual layout plan for potential future development at the property across from the airport terminal building.

Rent abatement: Reviewed a request from hangar tenant Washington Vintners on rent abatement as a result of access to his property being blocked during reconstruction work on the runway. A motion to approve a two-month rent abatement died without a second. No action was taken. Commissioners directed staff to try to work with the tenant on an alternative plan.

Farmco Lease: Authorized the airport manager to work with Farmco on a new lease agreement that would in time get the tenant’s rates in line with current rate and charge guidelines. Unanimous.
