WALLA WALLA — DeSales won its Southeast 2B League girls basketball opener against Walla Walla Valley Academy on the Irish court Thursday night, 64-28.

“For us, it was a game we played really, really well in spurts,” DeSales coach Tim Duncan said. “We started slow, and had a very good spurt for five minutes in the second quarter, and five minutes in the third quarter and then we played really well in the fourth quarter.”

The Knights trailed 15-11 after the opening stanza, and the Irish opened up a 26-16 halftime lead.

DeSales outscored WWVA 14-5 in the third period, and finished strong with a 24-7 fourth-quarter margin.

Ashlyn Lyons led the Irish with 14 points, with Allison Wujek scoring 11, and Teresa Acock and Brigit Lyons putting up nine apiece.

“We had good balance,” Duncan said. “Our freshmen are feeling more comfortable, and when they do we have more balance.”

Walla Walla Valley Academy was led by Amy Arnzen’s 14 points.

DeSales, now 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in SE2B play, heads to Tri-Cities Prep Saturday.

The Knights next play at Burbank Tuesday.
