OLYMPIA — State Rep. Terry Nealey, R-Dayton, has been named ranking Republican on the state House of Representatives finance committee.

The appointment was announced Thursday by state House Republican leader Rep. Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis.

Nealey said the finance committee will likely be one of the most important ones in the state House during the coming session. It considers bills relating to state revenues, such as tax increases or decreases and exemptions and changes in tax administration.

“With a budget shortfall projected to exceed $1 billion, there will be pressure to raise taxes. We need to resist that pressure and make sure the Legislature writes a budget that sets priorities and requires the state to live within its means,” Nealey said in release.

Nealey also will again serve on the environment and judiciary committees, said John Sattgast, senior information officer for the Washington House Republicans.
