DAYTON -- Bail was set Tuesday for a city man arrested Sunday after a search after a stabbing was reported at his home.
Eric Vanzandt, 28, of 1531 S. Second St. had bail set at $75,000 in Columbia County Superior Court.
Vanzandt was arrested on a warrant from Walla Walla County after officials received a report of a stabbing at Vanzandt's residence.
Vanzandt is charged with second-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of theft of a firearm, three counts of possession of a stolen firearm, second-degree theft and second-degree possession of stolen property.
He was booked into Columbia County Jail on Sunday.
The stabbing allegedly occurred during a fight outside Vanzandt's house early Sunday morning. The victim was driven to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla for treatment of wounds. The Sheriff's office learned of the stabbing from the medical center, which is required to report all gunshot or knife wounds to law enforcement, Columbia County Prosecuting Attorney Rea Culwell said this morning.
A warrant was obtained to search Vanzandt's home for the weapon used in the stabbing. While in the home, deputies observed other weapons, officials said.
A burglary in a residence near Vanzandt's home that had occurred late Jan. 28 or early Jan. 29 was reported at noon Sunday, and the items taken included items the deputies had noted in Vanzandt's home. The search warrant was amended, and three guns, several hunting knives and electronic equipment reported taken in the burglary were seized, officials said.
The first-degree possession of a firearm counts are due to Vanzandt's having a previous conviction of domestic violence assault. His past record includes arrests and prior convictions in Walla Walla, as far back as 1998, Culwell said.
There is also a fourth-degree assault charge pending against him in Columbia County, and he was previously convicted of a felony in Oregon, according to Culwell.
