Esther was born April 5, 1915, in Lodge Pole, South Dakota, to
Theodore and Ragna Tobias. She attended grade school in Lodge
Pole, and then became a graduate from Hettinger High School in
Hettinger, North Dakota. She attended beauty school in Rapid City,
South Dakota, and received her beautician license and later her
barber license. In 1945, she married Maurice Lockard in Missoula,
Montana. Together they had four children. They moved to Starbuck
in 1948, from Metaline, Washington. He preceded her in death in
1953. Esther came to Dayton in 1991.

She was a member of the Christian Women's Club, the Grange
and the Starbuck Community Church. She was a Sunday school
teacher at the church for many years. Becoming very involved
with the church and the community, the church dedicated "Esther
Lockard Day" to her. In the mid 80s, she was named the Grand
Marshal for "Buck High Days" parade in Starbuck. Esther had a
twin sister Ethel, and was very proud of that. It was special, too,
that they celebrated their 90th birthday together.

Esther is survived by two daughters: Colleen Johnson and
husband Roland, Cheryl Voth and husband Mike; one son: Dennis
Lockard and his wife Vicki; eleven grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son,
Phillip Lockard, five sisters and two brothers.
