ATHENA - Playing a single Special District 5 game against last-place Pilot Rock Tuesday, Weston-McEwen faced a critical situation in the fourth inning.
Down just 4-3, the Rockets had the bases loaded with no outs. But a groundout and a double-play later, W-M escaped the half and went on to post four runs of its own in the bottow of the inning to blow the game open for an 11-5 win.
"This is an important game for us," W-M coach Jeff Griggs said. "Pilot Rock was in the bottom of our league but they played well and we split with them last time we played them. I really feel like this game turned in the fourth."
W-M outhit the Rockets 14-7.
"I think it was a good team win," Griggs concluded.
Weston-McEwen faces a tougher challenge Saturday when it hosts No. 1-ranked Heppner for a doubleheader at 11 a.m.
