WALLA WALLA -- A 42-year-old inmate at the Washington State Penitentiary was being treated today after an attempted suicide.
Corrections officers found the man hanging in his cell in the prison's West Complex about 6 p.m. After receiving emergency treatment, the man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he is being treated today.
Prison spokeswoman Shari Hall said the inmate had been at the prison since December and was due to be released in 2020. The prison was operating normally today.
