WALLA WALLA -- The trial of a Burbank man accused of unlawfully growing marijuana on his property a year ago has again been postponed in Walla Walla County Superior Court.
The proceedings in the case against Timothy G. Casey, 52, of 425 E. Sunset Drive, now are set to begin Oct. 9.
The trial initially was scheduled for last August, but has been postponed several times. The latest setting had been June 5.
Casey's attorneys reportedly have been preparing a medical-marijuana defense.
Casey has pleaded innocent to one count of manufacturing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school bus route stop and while armed with a firearm, and one count of possessing the controlled substance with the intent to deliver it.
Officials say 39 suspected marijuana plants were located in a metal shop in the back of Casey's property when a search warrant was served May 27, 2011.
The shop contained two grow rooms, one of which was behind a hidden wall and another that was under the floor, according to a Sheriff's Office report filed in court.
A medical marijuana permit was displayed on a wall, but not more than 15 plants are allowed by law unless a doctor can testify more is needed for a person's treatment.
Authorities also located a processing, packing and resale room in another metal building on the property, the Sheriff's Office report says. Among items allegedly discovered were about five ounces of marijuana, a drying rack, scales and hundreds of various-sized plastic packaging bags.
Officials obtained the search warrant after receiving information that Casey "had been moving pounds of marijuana for at least the last 16 months," according to the Sheriff's Office report.
During the search at the residence, authorities also found "a handful of firearms," including two loaded handguns in the processing/packaging/resale room, the report says.
Casey was arrested, but was released from the County Jail the following day after $25,000 cash bail was posted.
