WALLA WALLA — An arrest of a man near Green Park Elementary School this afternoon caused a brief lockdown of the school.
According to Mark Higgins, Walla Walla Public Schools communications director, the incident occurred about 2:45 p.m. when a parent told school Principal Mike Lambert of police activity outside.
Lambert had the school put on a “yellow” lockdown, which involves students being brought inside and doors to the outside being secured. Higgins said Lambert then went outside to investigate what was happening and after seeing that police had the situation in hand, lifted the lockdown.
School was dismissed at 2:55 p.m. at the normal time, Higgins said.
A reporter on the scene said police were acting on a tip that a possibly stolen car occupied by one man was parked on North Clinton Street. Two police officers blocked the vehicle and took the man in the car into custody. The car was later towed away.
