New clinic is labor of love for midwife

A new midwife service is offered by a familiar face in women’s health.

Kathryn Austin has opened Blue Mountain Midwifery and Women’s Health Care at the Walla Walla Professional Complex, 120 E. Birch St., suite 7.

Austin will host an open house Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at the clinic.

Although the business is new, Austin has been on Walla Walla’s health care scene for a number of years. A mother and grandmother, she worked as a nurse before earning her advanced degrees to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner between 2006 and 2008.

Prior to opening the clinic, she worked for Walla Walla General Hospital.

Her new operation seeks to empower women through holistic, patient-led and education-based health care. Her services include guidance through everything from pregnancy, home birth, lactation and birth control to PMS/anxiety-depression, weight loss/nutrition and menopause support.

Friday’s open house will include a drawing for a free annual exam and other various gifts.
