RICHLAND — Richland scored four straight goals in a 4-1 victory over visiting Wa-Hi Tuesday night in Mid-Columbia Conference girls soccer.
Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said the Blue Devils (2-8, 2-7 MCC) struggled with a headwind in the first half.
“We were pressuring them and doing well,” Cruz said. “The girls just played excellent, it seems to me we played we played against the wind in the first half.
“We just got caught flat-footed inside our box. A goal is a goal, but they weren’t really earned, they caught us off guard. We just couldn’t cope with the wind.”
Hanford’s Bret Baysinger scored on a corner kick in the eighth minute to open scoring for the Falcons.
Baysinger assisted on another goal by Monica Rowley seven minutes later.
Colette Gall scored the final goal of the first half on an assist by Maddy Bingham in the 30th minute to give the Falcons a 3-0 before the intermission.
Deinna Quadrel continued the Falcon run with another goal in the 49th minute.
Ruby Salgado scored the loan goal for the Blue Devils in the 52nd minute on a handball free kick just outside the Hanford penalty box.
The Blue Devils are missing several key players due to injury and added to that total Tuesday when midfielder Maggie Callan went down with an ankle injury in the 60th minute.
“All the girls, they just played great,” Cruz said. “We’ve been hurt a lot with injuries. It just happened the wind just didn’t help us this time.
“They played great. We’ll get back on it as soon as we get these girls healthy and ready to play again.”
