WALLA WALLA—A second-half penalty kick was not enough for Walla Walla Community College to continue their unbeaten ways as they were defeated by Peninsula in men’s soccer Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Menchaca scored the lone goal in a game that WWCC coach Chad Bodnar called the “worst we played all year.”
Things did not start well for the Warriors as Peninsula got on the board quickly with a goal by Daniel Gonzalez at the two-minute mark.
This was followed by an Alex Martinez goal at 24 minutes to give Peninsula a 2-0 halftime lead.
Gonzalez scored his second goal of the day in the 54th minute, only to be followed by a penalty kick goal by Menchaca at 56 minutes.
Gonzalez then scored his third goal of the day moments later to stop any momentum that might have been brewing for the Warriors.
“They jumped on us early,” Bodnar said. “We played a good team today. We know where the bar is and we know we have to get better.”
“All credit goes to Peninsula.”
WWCC falls to 9-1-2 on the season. The Warriors look to get back in the win column Saturday with a home game against Tacoma at 2:15 p.m.
