WAITSBURG — Walla Walla Valley Academy defeated Waitsburg-Prescott in straight sets Tuesday night in Southeast 2B volleyball, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-11.
W-P coach Angie Potts pointed to her team’s mindset as one explanation for the lop-sided loss.
“I thought the first two (sets) we were playing pretty well,” Potts said. “For us it’s just a mental thing, it’s in their head whether we can pull a match out like we need to. They’re a talented group, they’re athletic, just in that third set we weren’t in it.”
“I felt like we served well and the kids played well together,” WWVA coach Scott Schafer said. “We got to get some other kids in and get them some looks on the court too, which was nice.”
Amy Arnzen led the Knights with seven kills and 11 digs. Hannah Woolever scored three aces on a 10-of-10 performance at the line.
Rylee Sutton put up 10 assists and Caroline Larson had 6 blocks.
“They play pretty well,” Potts said of WWVA. “Overall they have some talent, they’ve got a lot of girls that play club volleyball. They’ve put the time in, it shows with those seniors.”
Samantha Federson led W-P with seven kills, five digs and two blocks.
Enedina Fuentes had three kills with eight digs; Rhiannon Chapman four kills; Jennifer Nichols nine digs; and Krystal Harris eight assists and six digs.
W-P (0-7 SE2B, 4-10) visits Tri-Cities Prep Thursday at 6 p.m.
WWVA (5-1 SE2B, 7-4) hosts DeSales on the same day and time.
