DURHAM, N.C. — Mike Trout is the first rookie to win Baseball America’s player of the year award.
Called up three weeks into the season, the Los Angeles Angels outfielder batted .326 with 30 homers and 83 RBIs. He also led the majors with 49 stolen bases (in 54 attempts) and 129 runs while making several highlight-reel catches.
Trout also was honored with the publication’s rookie of the year award.
